About Angel Eye Mountain
Angel Eye Mountain (Núi Mắt Thần or Núi Thủng) is a spectacular limestone mountain in Cao Bang, famous for its giant natural hole that lets sunlight pass through like a divine eye. Part of the Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark, this 300-million-year-old geological marvel offers breathtaking views, especially at sunrise when light beams through its 50m-wide "eye."
Why Visit?
👁️ The "Eye" Phenomenon – A 45m-high, 50m-wide hole creates a magical glow when sunlight pierces through (best at 5–7 AM).
🌄 UNESCO Geopark Site – Formed over 300 million years, surrounded by Thang Hen Lake’s 36 vanishing/reappearing lakes.
📸 Photographer’s Paradise – Capture the "dragon’s eye" effect, lush forests, and mirror-like lakes.
🚶 Adventure Access – A short hike from Ban Danh Village (Quang Hoa District), near Cao Bang City.
Best Time to Visit:
Dry Season (Sep–Apr): Clear skies for sunrise views.
May–Aug: Emerald greenery (but frequent rain).
How to Get There:
From Cao Bang City: 30km (~1 hour) via QL3 + TL205 roads.
Combine with Thang Hen Lake and Ban Gioc Waterfall for a full day trip.
Fun Fact: Locals call it "Phja Piót" (Pierced Mountain) for its wind-tunnel-like hole!
