4. How to Get to Suoi Thau Steppe
- Route 1 (120km): Ha Giang City → QL2 → DT197C → Vinh Quang Town → DT178 → Coc Pai → Suoi Thau. Steep, winding, and rocky terrain.
- Route 2 (147km): Ha Giang City → QL2 → Tan Quang → DT177 → Nam Ty → Vinh Quang → DT178 → Coc Pai → Suoi Thau. Avoid due to muddy, rough, landslide-prone paths.
- Route 3 (152km, recommended): Ha Giang City → QL2 → Viet Quang → QL279 → DT178 → Coc Pai → Suoi Thau. Easier and safer to drive.
- From Bac Ha, Lao Cai (best route): Just 35km via DT153. Smooth concrete roads, easy even during rain or at night.
5. Travel Tips
- The route from Ha Giang to Suoi Thau is long and under construction. Prepare for dust, rocks, mud, and landslides. Plan ahead and allow ample time.
- Few homestays or services available—fuel up, check your brakes and tires, and plan meals and overnight stays in advance.
- Look for a wooden welcome gate on the left and follow a dirt road for 500m, then 2km of concrete uphill road to reach the site.
