Angel Eye Mountain, also known as God’s Eye Mountain, is a breathtaking natural landmark located within the Thang Hen Lake scenic area, part of the Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark. This region is home to a network of 36 interconnected natural lakes, situated in Cao Chuong and Quoc Toan communes of Trung Khanh District, approximately 50 kilometers from Cao Bang City.
A Majestic Limestone Landscape
Angel Eye Mountain is surrounded by towering limestone karsts and meandering streams, creating a stunning and untouched natural setting. According to geologists, the mountain is actually a dry cave, a fossil cave that was formed over 300 million years ago.
Due to tectonic uplift during the neotectonic era, the cave rose to its current elevation, resulting in cone-shaped and tower-shaped limestone formations, interwoven with lakes both large and small.
The Heavenly “Eye” Amidst Green Meadows
What makes Angel Eye Mountain truly unique is the giant circular hole piercing through the middle of the limestone wall — resembling a divine eye gazing down from above, hence the name “God’s Eye.” At the foot of the mountain are winding streams and lush, open meadows, forming a peaceful and poetic scene, much like a young maiden resting in nature’s embrace.
Scattered throughout the grasslands near the lake are mysterious deep caves, their moss-covered floors and jagged stalactites adding to the area’s mystical beauty.

A Magical Lake System
The lakes in the Thang Hen area are mysteriously connected by both surface streams and underground rivers. As a result, the water levels fluctuate seasonally — and sometimes even within just a few hours. One moment, the water might rise dramatically; the next, it could recede entirely, revealing vast grassy valleys around Angel Eye Mountain.
When dry, the area becomes a picturesque valley covered in velvet-green grass, surrounded by limestone peaks of various shapes and sizes, creating a landscape straight out of a fairytale.
